And the award for the Best Decorated Holiday Yard goes to ...

Marc and Jo White, 2818 Ashton Hill Drive. Their decorations are sparkly, flashy, colorful and utterly charming. Please drive by to see them soon!

To everyone in Ashton Wood who decorated, from the most extravagant to a single classic wreath, thank you from the HOA Board and your neighbors.

Ashton Wood Homeowners Association (AWHOA) 2808 Ashton Hill Drive, Dacula, GA 30019

Memo To: All Ashton Wood Residents November 14, 2020
Subject: 2020 Membership Drive and Annual Meeting Notice

On behalf of the 2020 Board of Directors I want to thank the residents of our neighborhood for all the support they provided during the past year. Without doubt, 2020 was one of the most interesting and memorable years in recent history, and during the year, the board took on several challenges for the neighborhood. As I mentioned in my e-mail last May, COVID-19 required all of us to make changes in how we work, how we travel, how we communicate, how we worship, etc. However, through careful adherence to CDC guidance for neighborhood pools, we were able to open our pool all summer, and thanks to your adherence to the established protocols, we had a very successful, and healthy, pool season.

In addition to getting the pool open, the board hosted a “virtual” backyard tour this year, which had more participants than many of our previous “in-person” tours! We have some gorgeous back yards and many of you were happy to show them off. Given the situation in 2020, the board cancelled many of our “official” social events, but there were several other events that were put together − not by the board, but by neighbors joining together – including several food trucks that visited our neighborhood over the summer. In addition, several neighbors organized a neighborhood-wide day of prayer in July, and many others participated in a show of appreciation to our first responders – both current and retired. It is a privilege to live in a neighborhood with so many who put their lives on the line for our community.

Many of you are “basic” HOA members, and your membership dues fund maintenance of our front entry and other common property, as well as mandatory taxes and insurance. In fact, you may have noticed a major renovation to the front entrance that has greatly improved the look at the entrance to our neighborhood. In addition, your dues supported costs associated with our website which is designed to keep everyone current on events in and around our neighborhood (www.ashtonwoodhoa.org).

Those neighbors who opted for the “swim/tennis” membership had access to an upgraded and very well-maintained pool. The tennis courts, however, are in desperate need of re-surfacing. This is the next major project facing the board and cost estimates have already been received. Unfortunately, given the voluntary nature of our HOA, the board does not have the capital funds available at this time to make the necessary improvements. However, the goal is to have the tennis courts up to a state-of-the-art level in the next 2 to 3 years. But this can only happen if neighbors opt in for the “swim/tennis” membership. This year, the number of “swim/tennis” members was a little low, but that was to be expected with COVID-19. The hope is that the numbers will rebound in 2021. The swim/tennis membership fees fully maintain both the pool and tennis courts which are both beneficial to the entire neighborhood. Their availability enhances the property values of every house in Ashton Wood, and the tennis courts must be addressed.

To continue meeting the common needs of the Ashton Wood Subdivision, we need 1) your financial support in the form of membership dues and 2) periodic support during community workdays to keep our expenses as low as possible. The 2021 AWHOA membership drive has now started, and your support is very much needed and appreciated. Attached is the invoice for 2021 membership. Annual basic membership fees for 2021 will once again remain steady at $90 ($85 if paid on or before April 1, 2021). Full membership, including swim/tennis privileges, is available for $415 ($385 if paid on or before April 1, 2021). Our neighborhood has 142 homes and the majority support the homeowner’s association either as basic or full members. I hope we will have the support of the entire subdivision in 2021 as all of us benefit from the actions of AWHOA.

You are invited to attend the annual AWHOA Meeting which is open to all residents. This meeting will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at a location to be determined – it will most likely be virtual. Make sure to visit the website to get more information as the date approaches. The purpose of this meeting is to review the accomplishments of the AWHOA in 2020 and establish goals for 2021. We will also elect board members for 2021, and then they will elect the officers for the year. Our by-laws allow for a maximum of nine board members and we currently have nine homeowners who have indicated a willingness to serve as Board members in 2021. A ballot listing the 2021 Board nominees is attached and should be returned by December 14 for final tally and approval. If any additional homeowners are interested in assisting the board as a committee member or in other positions, please notify the Board of your interest via our website at www.ashtonwoodhoa.org/contact.

I sincerely ask that you thoughtfully consider joining the AWHOA in 2021. Your support will help us maintain our status as one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Dacula. Membership is our only source of income so please consider joining as a full member to help maintain the pool and tennis facilities as well as other common community property.

Respectively,

Alfie Meek,
2020 President, AWHOA

Neighborhood Yard Sale: November 14th

Hello Ashton Woods neighbors! It’s that time of the year again for our Annual Ashton Wood Neighborhood Garage Sale. Due to Covid we had to cancel the one we have in the Spring but fortunately we are able to proceed with our fall sale. Our HOA neighborhood sponsored garage sales are always so much fun and we usually have really good participation from the community. This year our neighborhood garage sale will take place on Saturday, November 14th, from 8am-12 noon just before Thanksgiving. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure so take all the stuff that you’ve been meaning to get rid of and support our neighborhood event. Please sign up so that we have an idea of how many might be interested. We need at least 5 families to justify putting up the front entrance banner and yard signs. Participating families will be responsible for their own directional and yard signs. Please contact me at 850-570-7122.

Yard of the Week Awarded

Congratulations to Frances and Greg Rolader, 2200 Ashton Ridge Drive, who have been awarded Yard of the Week. While their lush grass is beautiful, perfectly mowed and edged, and the rose bushes and crepe myrtles are a lovely accent, it was, of course, the dapper fellows hanging out on the bench that clinched the selection.

See the Yard of the Week Gallery on the association web site for a photo of their yards!
